THERE’S MORE TO A CAVE THAN MEETS THE EYE

A while ago we were driving the South coast of Iceland and looking for a location to shoot some pictures of our guestbooks. The idea was to use our beautiful black sand beaches and some driftwood we’d find, among other things, to give the images something a little bit extra.

After taking the pictures we decided to go for a little sightseeing around Hjörleifshöfða, but the shooting took place further down the beach from Hjörleifshöfði at Mýrdalssandur.

Well, we could not go all the way around the cape (cape= höfði. Hjörleifur is a name of the step brother of Ingólfur Arnarsson the first settler of Iceland. Hjörleifur settled in at the mountain/cape which was then named after him). Anyhow, what we found half way around the cape was a cave. I always find caves a bit fascinating and begin to imagine all kinds of things. I also love to take pictures from the inside and out and this one sure did come as a surprise. When I took a closer look at the picture when we arrived home it really did remind me of Woody Woodpecker….and it still does every time I look at it.

Am I a bit crazy or what? What do you think? –does it remind you of Woody Woodpecker?
