Yes, to have one pure handmade Icelandic lopapeysa is a must. Two is good and three is even better. Well, actually, you cannot have to many. I just finished this one, a very plane sweater that I knitted while sitting in the car driving between places in the summer. I am not going to tell you how long it took but it is finished now.
As you see the lopapeysa does not necessarily have to have the pattern on top even though it looks more original that way. But did you know that the Icelandic sweater is not that old? One might have thought that the Vikings and those who followed had designed and made the first lopapeysa, but no, it‘s history only goes as far back as 1940-1950.
But what’s in a name? „lopapeysa“ = lopi – is the name of the yarn used and -peysa = sweater. The lopi is the wool that comes from the cutest sheep breed in the world, in my opinion. As you can see on this picture the lopi/wool can be colored in lots of colours and the sweaters knitted in many sizes. All of those sweaters green, pink and black are intended to go along to the highland on a fishing trip to keep everyone warm. Even the small bottle of snaps.
Therefore it is a pure joy to be able to use different colored recycled paper on the background of the small notebooks with sheep on the cover.
